Jackson, Tennessee is home to West Tennessee Healthcare, a comprehensive healthcare system focused on improving the health and well-being of the communities they serve by providing exceptional and compassionate healthcare. The flagship of West Tennessee Healthcare is a 621-bed tertiary care center located in Jackson named Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. The only tertiary care hospital between Memphis and Nashville, the hospital serves a 19-county area of rural West Tennessee and Southeast Missouri. Approximately 500,000 persons reside within the service area.

Jackson-Madison County General Hospital offers the only open heart surgery program in rural West Tennessee and will soon be celebrating 40 years of providing nationally-ranked care. 

Jackson-Madison County General Hospital, like all affiliates within West Tennessee Healthcare, is a not-for-profit organization. Totally self-supporting, without relying on local tax support, all revenues generated provide for overhead costs including employee expense, debt service, purchase of technology, renovation, expansion, creation of new services, and, most importantly, maintaining the low-cost structure for which General Hospital is well known. Opening August 11, 1950 as a 123-bed community hospital to serve Jackson-Madison County’s Hospital needs, the facility has become one of Tennessee’s most respected healthcare sites.

Jackson is also home to West Tennessee Healthcare’s North Hospital, providing emergency services, radiology, lab, and orthopedics and spine surgeries. In addition, West Tennessee Healthcare offers durable medical equipment, a comprehensive cancer center, hospice services, along with behavioral health services, a medical fitness facility, and outpatient physical therapy clinics all conveniently located in the community.

The West Tennessee Medical Group, also affiliated with West Tennessee Healthcare, is one of the region’s largest multi-specialty physician groups, and has primary care and specialty clinics throughout Jackson and West Tennessee.
